Thanks for the comment, the mortar, along with reinforcements and artillery, are the "orders" terits in the upper right of the map, where the red crosshair is. Orders can be accessed through each side's respective bunkers (i.e. German bunker attacks German mortar)

it is not the case, they can be 'entered' from behind or on top or even from the side.
