i prefer the old title to the new title.... the font for rail australia reminds me of those bubble things that they use for colorblind tests where theres a hidden number or letter in a different color in a sea of another color....

i like the underlining thing though, but it is also disproportionately large compared to the font IMO

Prob was whitestazn88, i hant' done anything to the old title, so it was due for an update.
Those dots are meant to be a representation of an aboriginal dot painting.
The underlying thing is meant to be wattle and eucalypt leaves.

Hey cairnswk, sorry about the delay getting back to you on this map.

First, good things: lots of little bonuses scattered about, so many decent starts. Without the M-V-P bonuses the west would be an awful place to start, for example, but providing a quick bonus gives you a lot of options early. And I love when bonuses share territories with each other - that south-central M-V-P may make a nice start, but pretty soon you're going to face the music when your opponents want those territories to connect their lines.

My concern is that it somehow lacks the simplicity and clarity of the USA or Europe rails maps. EuropeRails is a complex map in terms of route connections and station divisions so thus it is challenging, but in terms of working out the mechanics of how you play it the map is very straightforward. This map is far less straightforward - I've been looking at it for a few minutes and I'm still not confident that I could play a game on it without missing something.

You have three different kinds of potential bonuses going on, which isn't bad, but in my opinion they need to better stand out from each other visually. The first I assume is the rail company (AusRail, etc). These are indicated by color only, which always makes me nervous in a game. The colors that look closest to me are WaRail and QRail, which thankfully are across the map from each other; and while I can tell them apart, I don't know which is which. Ditto Vic and SaRail.

The second type of bonus is the long distance routes. Letter only, and in many cases not the same color.

The third type of bonus is the Port/Via/Mineral connections, of which I have identified four after considerable scanning. The confusing thing is that the M, V and P aren't in a consistent location (because some stations have one or more long distance route), so I keep missing them. It would be easier if the letters were in the same location on each station, and not dependent upon the other elements of that station. (And on a visual note, you lose the "M"s in the sides of the boxes.

I'm also a bit concerned about the north eastern corner of the map. There's a Rail bonus, an MVP bonus, and a long distance bonus, which you could fairly easily take in steps. Put them together and that's a +11, and they are mutually self contained - hold that color rail and you hold the other bonuses as well with nobody molesting you for their own bonuses other than that one territory of the X line. Four borders, 1 territories, +11. In classic if you hold Asia (12 terits, 5 borders) you only get a +7,and you don't get to collect little sub-bonuses along the way.

In relation to the above, i have, in the map below, changed the box codes on the four eastern states- QRail, NswRail, VicRail, TasRail.
Is this more appropriate for you?

Also in relation to the QRail M-V-P bonus, i'd like to keep that, but will add back in some M-P bonuses in WA to even that up a bit.

i dunno if i've said this before. i think i did way at the beginning of this thread, but i really do prefer this gameplay to that of rail usa and europe, and i think because there are a few spots where its not completely linear.

Putting Rail indicator in a box if that color: good. But what wil happen on a station like PGA where you need four letters?

Version 18 Solutions to above....
1. New mineral, viapoint and port symbols added
2. new station at Kununurra in NT added to create a mineral port pair for NT
3. mineral port pair added to WA as promised

Don't know about the all black, but what does Oaktown think of that and what colours would be more appropriate for the C/blind.

Would be a much simplier solution for those sort of simple folk who get these things wrong :P

Also if there any plans for three colours. One for each different symbol?
